positive parenting tips for teenagers
Thank you to all the parents that were able to join us on Monday morning as we explored some strategies to support us in raising teenagers. We appreciate all the wonderful tips from Dr. Haneen from the Camali Clinic. It was an engaging and informative topic and hopefully everyone walked out feeling a little better equipped when handling and guiding their adolescent at home. If you were not able to join us, please see below for some tips from the workshop.
Remember you are a parent and a friend
Teenagers need love
Teenagers need privacy
Teenagers need to be different
Establish a dependable together time
Teenagers need to be listened to- Getting them to talk
Teenagers need boundaries
Parent actively and appropriately
Try to be there after school
Keep your standards high
Make it a high priority to have meals together.
Keep the lines of communication humming
Encourage good self-care
Continue family meetings
Use crises to connect more deeply with your teen
Keep kids safe and connected to the family by keeping computers in your common space.
Don’t push your teen into independence before he/she is ready for it.
Make agreements and teach your child to make repairs
What if you have raised your child with punishment and now she is breaking your rules and lying to you?
Stay connected even as he/she moves into the world
