May 31, 2018

We are writing this message a few hours before the Class of 2018 will graduate from DAA.  A huge congratulations for our seniors. Your many years of hard work and dedication have paid of.   Please stay tuned to SPOTS next week for more information.

Senior leaving gift

Gr 12 said thanks to DAA and are leaving their mark in the senior lounge by way of a graffiti piece by local Artist Rami Elzawawy. The IB Visual Art students worked together with him to come up with a design which they then worked on together to complete.

HS Robotics

Students in HS Robotics class were assigned a Ramadan theme in their latest project. Hummingbird kits were used with various LED lights, sound, sensors, and motors to bring their creations to life including a mosque, lanterns, storytellers, Iftar food carts, and even a shooting canon.

HS Music

The High School Music Department presents FUNKHAUS

We invite all students, colleagues, friends and family members to our end of year concert. As always we present a wide variety of music to showcase what has been happening in music classes in these past months.

29 students in the Concert Band have continued rehearsing music with strong elements of jazz and rock. While this sounds like a lot of fun (and it was!) there have been musical challenges. Students had to adapt to complex, fast rhythmic figures as well as the overall sense of “swing” rhythm found in Jazz.

Following our successful participation in this year’s Choir Fest Middle East, our Concert Choir has continued working on a program which focuses on 4 part harmonies and foreign languages. Over the past months we have been able to take on more complex and challenging music which we are eager to present!

The Jazz Ensemble continues their journey into the world of improvisation, jazz standards and complex harmonies. They will present two pieces – a Bossa Nova as well as a contemporary Blues/R’n’B piece.

Joining this concert is our Beginning Band who have picked up their instruments less than a year ago. Under the expert guidance of Mr Paul Hopkins they have developed quickly on their instruments. We look forward to welcoming interested “Beginners” into Concert Band next year – but most importantly on stage this coming Wednesday!

As a special treat we will be inviting one of our graduating IB Music students as well as DAA music teachers to perform with us on stage. Join us for a night of heart melting vocals, cool jazz and swinging band sound – this coming Wednesday, June 6 at 8 pm!

Ramadan sharing Fridges

The concept gives access to food and drinks to people who may struggle to get them otherwise. Food needed for the fridges includes juices, soda, milk, laban and packaged foods, fruits and vegetables. The sharing fridges are available for those in need to pick up a refreshing drink or snack when they break their fast.
