ELEMENTARY

March 23, 2021

Dear Elementary Families,

Thank you for a brilliant second term!

The end of this term was a celebration of learning in many ways. Through our Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences our students demonstrated great pride and self-awareness of themselves as learners. We heard fantastic feedback from all involved and appreciate you spending your time with us. Student report cards will be sent home to families on Thursday.

In terms of the school community our students have been jumping into March Into Reading activities, competing in Sports Week and developing their skills as authors over these past few days of Creative Writing Week. It has been a joyful time in our classrooms for students and teachers.

When we return from Spring Break we will begin with regular school timings and then head into Ramadan hours once the beginning of Ramadan is announced. To ensure our health and safety protocols remain consistent, we will continue with staggered hours K-12.

Thank you for your continued support of the school. We wish you all the best over the Spring Break holiday and look forward to welcoming our students back on April 11.

Sincerely,

Craig Cantlie

Executive Principal, Elementary

ES SPORTS WEEK

Sports Week has been a lot of fun, but it is not over yet!  This week in PE we are continuing our journey of active games while demonstrating sportsmanship.  Blue Teams and Red Teams are enjoying the competitive spirit!  Our Home Learners have contributed by completing activities, and posting on our Sports Week Padlet.

On Thursday morning, from 7:40-8:30, we will have our ES wide Closing Ceremony Assembly via Zoom and YouTube Live,  log in details will be sent on Wednesday afternoon.  If your child does not have PE on Thursday, it is Sports Jersey Day and they may wear their favorite Sports kit.

Thank you for all of your support of our PE Program, and your efforts to have our students ready to participate!

Remember during the Spring Break, to take the time to stay physically active!

ES learning highlights

Grade 4 students approached their persuasive writing unit from a “Shark Tank” perspective. Students invented something and “pitched” it to their peers via an advertisement and commercial while using strategies and techniques they have learned.  In turn, students chose one class representative that they felt had the best product and pitch.  And the finalists “pitched” their idea to THE SHARKS!

Students in 3LL have been having a wonderful time exploring forces, motion, friction and acceleration. They have engaged in a variety of experiments, both hands-on and interactive, in order to explore these concepts.  #inquirers #researchers #criticalthinking
