ELEMENTARY

April 29, 2021

Dear Elementary Families,

Thank you for another great week with your children. As I have said many times, a school is really a community of learners and as a community we strive to ensure our students have experiences that shape them to be well-rounded adults. Our focus at DAA continues to be teaching the whole child through Academics, Arts and Athletics. We are very proud of the work our teachers do with our students each and every day.

In trimester two our students were able to demonstrate their athletics skills and sportsmanship through our Sports Week extravaganza which you can relive here through the video created by our PE team. This trimester we will be celebrating the Fine Arts through a number of wonderful initiatives Ms. Sheikh and her team are creating. Our first Fine Arts showcases will be shown in the Atrium and on our school platforms. Here is what we have for this week!

This week our elementary DAAPA parents organized our monthly DAAPA Coffee Morning. This week Mr. Sprague, our Grade 5 teacher and Numeracy Activator, shared how developing our students’ Mathematical Mindset is at the heart of what we do as a school, and how that translates into learning in the classrooms. We recorded the session if you would like to watch the presentation and also included the Slides for anyone who is interested. Watch for the next DAAPA meeting at the end of May.

We are inviting all DAA ES students to enter their drawings in our yearbook cover contest. A winner for each grade will be selected!

There will also be an overall winner chosen to be featured on the front and back cover of the yearbook!

For details on how to enter, click HERE.

Finally, just a reminder that if you have not yet subscribed to our bi-weekly newsletter, please do so. We strive to provide you a window into the world of elementary learning through photos, explanation of units and student work. Here is the latest edition.

Thank you for your continued support and have an excellent weekend.

Earth Day Highlights

Clessa Fumo's grade 2 students tended to their garden as part of Earth Day celebrations! Students pulled weeds to create a healthier environment for their plants to thrive and replanted some sunflowers to give them more room to grow. As one student said, “so it can reach its full potential!”
