Hello DAA Leopards!

Celebrations and diligent work both abound as we enter the final weeks of the school year. Students, as I share at school with you, now is the time to lean in, not out. Strive valiantly as the end of the school year approaches and be proud of your effort when summer break arrives. Parents, thanks for all you do to encourage your student in this timely, important effort.

With summer break in mind, please see the 2023-24 school calendar below, with a full school return date of August 28.

Understanding Safeguarding at DAA

On World Poetry Day, we took a moment to appreciate the beauty and power of words through the Middle School World Poetry Day Competition. Poetry has the ability to inspire, to move us, to transport us to new worlds, and to make us see things in a different light, regardless of our backgrounds or experiences. It truly is a universal language that can help us understand each other better and create empathy and understanding. 

It was wonderful to see so many of our students taking part in this celebration by submitting their own poems. Their entries have been submitted and judged, and I am thrilled to announce that we received a number of fantastic entries from students across all grades. I especially want to take this opportunity to congratulate each and every one of you who participated as well as a special mention to the following students who were prize winners:

• Sara Al Haj Khalil - Gold for My Palestine

• Aarna Sapolia - Silver (tied) for her portfolio of Haunted, Hysteria, Pretend, and Hell is a teenage girl

• Chendi Yang - Silver (tied) for Garden of Water

• Eleni Kefala - Bronze for The Wishing Well of Childhood Regrets

I would also like to thank our teachers for their guidance and support throughout the competition. Your encouragement and mentorship have been invaluable in helping our students realize their potential and achieve success.

It is always inspiring to see our students take an interest in literature and the arts. Their creative and thoughtful poetry are a testament to the great things that can be achieved when we put our minds and hearts into something. Once again, congratulations to our talented young poets.
