Arizona State University Update

We are mid-way through our first cohort of students taking college courses through Arizona State University. We are extremely proud of our 27 students who have taken on this rigorous challenge above and beyond their regular course load here at DAA. The next course session will begin January 11, 2022. We will communicate information about the upcoming session in mid-November.

National Honor Society of DAA

We are proud to announce that 79 Grade 10-12 students have been selected to join the inaugural chapter of the National Honor Society of Dubai American Academy. The National Honor Society is an international organization that recognizes students who exemplify the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The selection process involved student’s submission of a detailed candidate profile, followed by the careful evaluation of student’s profiles by a five-member Faculty Council.

Additionally, we would like to congratulate the following students who were selected by their National Honor Society peers to serve on the Executive Council.

President: Ananya Sharma

Vice-President: Hannah Moore

Secretaries of Attendance and Records: Dana Nayed and Jason Pan

Treasurer: Yiwei Xu

Parliamentarian: Carlos Rangel

Public Relations Officers: Noor El Ali and Leen Abou Ibrahim

A formal National Honor Society induction ceremony and reception will be held on Sunday, November 28th at 6:00pm for inductees and their parents.

HSC WEEK Trips

This week, grade 10 and select grade 11 students were introduced to their options for HSC Week, which will be February 27-March 3, 2022.  Students are able to select from a multitude of choices for the week, focusing on service or career exploration.  For more information about options for grade 10 and 11, including the form to fill out to indicate student preference before 3pm on Thursday, November 4, please visit the website: https://jdoubledaydaa.wixsite.com/website-1

Grade 9 HSC Week options will be introduced on Tuesday, November 8 during a class assembly, at which time parents will be sent communication outlining choices and next steps.

CAT4 testing

Beginning Sunday, November 7th, students in Grade 10 PE classes will take CAT4 tests. This is done each year with all Grade 10 students. As with all assessments, we encourage students to get a good night's sleep the night before the test and to eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning.

MAP Testing

Formal MAP testing in Reading, Language Usage, Math and Science has completed and will no longer occur during class time. If students have not completed their MAP tests, they will be contacted via email with information about how and when to complete their tests. Parents will also receive these emails. If you receive one of these emails, please encourage your child to attend their assigned make up session. MAPs data is used to track progress and attainment of knowledge in various subjects. This data is also used to determine eligibility for specific courses.

Best Secondary School in Dubai

We are extremely proud to announce that Tuesday night at the Dubai Opera House, our High School was named the Best Secondary School in Dubai at the Bayut “Your Home, Your Choice” Awards ceremony.

This nomination would not have been possible without your trust, support and commitment to the DAA community. We will continue to reflect and refine our practices and, as we often say here, ‘we don’t rest on our laurels’.  Thank you again for your part in helping DAA rise to the top.
