MIDDLE SCHOOL

May 1, 2022

Dear DAA Middle School Families,

I would like to start by wishing all of our families Eid Mubarak!  Our students did a fantastic job of showing reverence, respect, and reflection throughout the month of Ramadan.  In our CREW classes, the students competed in a Ramadan Doors competition.   Please see some of our wonderful examples below. We also held our annual virtual Ramadan assembly.   Our Islamic students had an opportunity to hear from an author during Islamic class, take part in the annual Holy Quran competition, as well as many other activities.

Upon returning to school after Eid, we will be returning to our normal timetable.  As a reminder, it is included below:

In a few short weeks, we will be gearing up for our final MAP tests of the year.  We want your child to be rested and ready to do their best, so students may be engaging in different activities to help them prepare.  We’ll send out some helpful reminders for testing in the weeks ahead.

after school activities

Our last round of after school and lunchtime activities will begin soon!

Students will be able to see the available activities and sign up through their grade level bulletins.  If you have any queries please contact Mr. Murphy at s.murphy_daa@gemsedu.com.

DAA parent session - raising resilient children

All parents in our DAA family are invited to join us in the auditorium on May 10 at 8:30 for our upcoming session with local psychologist Christine Kritzas as we learn about fostering resilience in our children.

support staff giveback

A wonderful tradition in the middle school is the Support Staff Giveback that we do every year to honor and treat the people that keep our school running behind the scenes. We spoke to our support staff, and have found a meaningful way to celebrate them this year.

In CREW students will be meeting 3 or 4 support staff, interviewing them to learn a little about their life and who they are, and we will be making a poster for each person to hang in the halls of the middle school. Rather than collecting items that we are unsure if they really need, we are asking this year for each student to bring in 50 aed (Grade 6/7 on May 16, Grade 8 on May 23) that we will pool together and buy gift cards so that they can buy whatever it is they need or want. This is not mandatory, just a way to exhibit our Culture of Kindness here at DAA MS. In early June we will be holding a celebration where we gather in the auditorium and present our support staff with the gift cards.
