MIDDLE SCHOOL

June 10th, 2021

Dear DAA Middle School Families,

Yesterday, we wrapped up our spring MAP tests.  I am so proud of the effort our students put into their tests and will be interested to see how they have grown throughout the school year!  Our MAP tests give teachers great information about how students are grasping concepts and what strengths and areas for growth each child has.

On Tuesday, our teachers chose two different sessions to learn about for their professional development time.  It was great to see our very own teachers leading meaningful sessions and discussions with their colleagues about digital citizenship, supporting students who have additional needs, supporting students who are gifted and talented, and an iPad app used to help teachers engage all learners.

Grade 6 students in Mr. Murphy’s art class worked with our Innovation Coach to learn about NFTs.  Students went on to create art and then “sell” it in a virtual auction!

Grade 8 Completion Ceremony

With the end of the school year in sight, we wanted to follow up with our tradition of the Grade 8 Completion Ceremony.

We will celebrate on two different days in order to have the A and B students recognized in person on-stage.  If your child is a remote learner, they will be celebrated on their intended group’s day.  Your child’s T&D teacher will be checking in with you to let you know which day that is.  The event will be live streamed to parents via YouTube.  Students should wear “smart dress” and ensure it complies with the school’s dress code policy.

Week Without Screens (Week Without Walls) and June Week

As you know, our Week Without Walls had to be changed due to COVID restrictions. While we cannot travel, we wanted to continue with fun opportunities for students to build relationships and camaraderie with each other and many of those things without screens. We will be holding safe, in-house events put on by our staff members during our last week of school.

So be ready the week of June 27 for some fun!  It will be a great ending to the school year!

Upcoming Dates

I hope you all stay well,
