This year Dyslexia Awareness Week runs from October 4th - October 10th. This week is an opportunity to raise awareness and understanding of dyslexia and help to bring about a positive change.
On Sunday October 10th, in support of Dyslexia Awareness Week, we encourage DAA students and staff to wear red.
Facts about Dyslexia:
Dyslexia is the most common learning disability.
1 in 5 people suffer from dyslexia.
Those with dyslexia use only the right side of the brain to process language, while non-dyslexics use three areas on the left side of the brain to process language.
People with dyslexia are usually more creative and have a higher level of intelligence.
Why do we wear red?
Reclaiming RED
The dreaded red, which we’ve all seen throughout our education. The red marker used to highlight the mistakes with our work is all too familiar for dyslexics around the world. Dyslexia groups have chosen red in order to take back its meaning and globally promote dyslexia awareness in a fun and positive way.
We look forward to seeing our Leopards in red on Sunday!
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our students and staff are encouraged to show their support by dressing in pink and/or white. DAAPA will be running a bazaar in the front of the school, where all proceeds will be donated to the Al Jalila foundation to benefit cancer patients.
