ELEMENTARY
May 1, 2022
Dear Elementary Families,
Thank you for a great week.
This week we were fortunate to have Earth Day workshops and celebrations for our students. Students explored the importance of the ocean in terms of our survival, and inquired into technological solutions and AI as ways to help protect them. Thank you Coach Voja for arranging this event with marine biologists for our students.
As we continue planning for the new school year, we are beginning the class placement process. This is a vigorous process where a number of factors inform our goal of creating the most synergistic classes possible. Given this, we invite you to share your thoughts about your child through our Parent Input Form. This is a voluntary form that you may complete if you wish. This information will then be another piece of information guiding our placement process for the 2022-2023 school year.
Thank you as always for your continued support and we wish you all a wonderful Eid holiday! See you on May 9.
Sincerely,
Craig Cantlie

Quote of the week: We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children – Anonymous.
The children looked very smart in their sporty outfits on Friday. It was a busy week – In literacy, the children did Persuasive writing, persuading different people by giving opinions and views on the things they would like to have, or looking at issues within the environment (pollution, littering, etc.) and wrote books on how we can help address these issues.
In math, the children are becoming more confident creating subtraction number stories. They made number bonds and wrote number/subtraction sentences to exhibit their learning. During inquiry lessons, the children were Inquirers as they inquired about the different habitats and were able to communicate their knowledge by writing and illustrating in their Research book. We also spoke about ‘How has Dubai changed to meet the needs of its residents?’ We discovered Dubai from the 1950's up till now.
On Earth day, the children made headbands and a poster talking about helping the planet and sharing ways we can protect it. We also went on a nature walk and found different things around the school. It was a fun day!
