MIDDLE SCHOOL messages
FROM THE MS PRINCIPAL'S DESK
August 30, 2018
Dear Middle School Parents and Students,
To all families, new and returning, welcome to the 2018-19 school year! We certainly hope that the summer vacation provided an opportunity for rest and relaxation for everyone. We are extremely excited to be opening the doors of the Middle School on Sunday, September 2nd!
First Day of School Information
We are pleased to announce that we have created a community focused schedule for the first two days of school. As mentioned in my new family orientation, building community is a main theme for the Middle School this year. On Sunday, September 2nd, students should arrive to school between 7:15 a.m. and 7:25 a.m. by entering through Gate 3. Once through gate 3, students will make their way to the Gymnasium where their orientation will begin at 7.40am. We will have teachers in all areas to guide them along the way. We kindly ask that all parents plan to say their goodbyes before students enter through gate 3 – rest assured that your child will be just fine and well taken care of! In the gymnasium they will be greeted by the teachers in their pod, receive their schedule of classes for the day, and be given directions on how to get to where they need to go. On a related note, we will divide students into orientation day groupings. These groupings are not the student advisory groupings (also called T & D groups). In the spirit of building community over these two days, we are forming these orientation groups in order that our students get to meet and know the teachers in their pods and also the students outside of their T and D groupings. Students can identify their pods and orientation grouping by referencing the large screen plasma screens set up in the gymnasium. We are so excited to have students in the building!
We would like to let you know that there is no parent parking available on campus. The parking spaces outside the gates are RTA parking. Should you need to come into the school, please be mindful of this.
Please be reminded that students should have all black shoes as part of our DAA uniform. Boys must wear the navy pants (no shorts) and girls may wear either the official DAA pants or the knee length skirt. All students must wear the blue shirt and their tie or scarf. “THREADS”, our DAA uniform supplier is located in Time Square Center. PE kits may also be purchased at THREADS; this includes the red PE shirt and blue PE shorts. As well, students will need to have a Color House shirt, according to their Transformation and Discovery group, which can be purchased for AED60 from the Leopards Den located on campus. Students will be issued a house color in the first week of school.
The Leopard's Den will be open from 7:15-8:00 am and from 2:45-3:30 pm on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. It will be closed on Tuesdays (until further notice).
The Leopard’s Den accepts cash only.
Snack, Lunch and Water
Students are free to bring their own snacks and lunches or may purchase a hot lunch in the MS/HS cafeteria. Please note that microwaves will not be accessible for students. Throughout the school year, students should have a water bottle that they can refill during the day at our water dispensers located throughout the building. Please ensure these water bottles are labeled with the owner's name.
Students will be instructed to bring their computers to school once they have a locker and lock to secure them during break and lunch. Please ensure that your child's name is somewhere on the laptop for identification.
