HIGH SCHOOL highlights

February 14, 2019

Dear HS Students and Parents.

A very busy week again in the HS. It is fantastic to see such an enthusiastic start to the Semester. The week finished with a collection of incredible student performance in this year's Genie Awards! It is remarkable to see the depth and range of talented students that we have in the school. A huge thank you to Student Government for the organization of this event and for all of those students who to took the risk to perform in front of the biggest crowd that I can remember at any Genie Awards in the past.

High School leadership news!

As mentioned in previous editions of Spots, I am leaving DAA at the end of this academic year after 6 years at DAA. After an extensive search and an intense two-day interview process for our three finalist candidates I am happy to announce that our very own Assistant Principal, Mrs. Tammy Jochinke will be taking over the role of High School Principal starting in August. Tammy is in her second year at DAA and was Director of Academic Standards and Curriculum at a different GEMS school in Dubai for three years prior to joining the DAA team.

With Tammy moving out the the Assistant Principal role I am also happy to announce that a 6-year DAA veteran will be taking her place as our new Assistant Principal. I am pleased to announce that Mr. Jim Atkinson has been appointed to that role starting in August 2019. Jim brings a wealth of IB Experience with him as he moves from his current role of IB Coordinator.

I wish them both the best in their new roles and I am confident the High School will be in very capable hands.

Junior College Night - Big Turnout!

Thank you all those Juniors and parents who were able to join us at Junior College night. We had fantastic turnout and a very special thanks to our counselors for providing such an informative session for our students. Remember that if you would like to make an appointment with your counselor please contact Mrs. Jan Evans at j.evans_daa@gemsedu.com or at 4 704 9831.

Add/Drop for Semester Two courses.

Please remember that the add/drop period for courses is now complete. Should students have any further questions regarding their schedules they should stop by and see their counselor.

Senior Cap and Gowns

We have our senior photos coming up next week and all seniors need to ensure that they have paid their deposit on their gowns. Seniors if you have any questions please make sure you stop by and see Nashmia in the High School Office.

Have a restful weekend

Warm Regards

Marc Starr
