ATHLETICS UPDATES

v. 52 March 14, 2019

Access divisional news through the top menu bar or at the bottom of each page.

There has been so much going on here at DAA with Athletics that if you blink you will miss something. All of teams have gotten off to a great start, including a great win for our Varsity Softball team vs ASD, Badminton winning most if not all of their matches, and the Track team setting personal bests at the ASD Relays. It is great to see the hard work that is being put in at practice coming to fruition on the field, court and track. We even had two firsts in DAA Athletic Department History, the first game ever played in girl's fast pitch softball, a week later the team’s first ever win at fast pitch softball vs bitter rival ASD and U14’s playing their first ever badminton match. Please see some photos from some of the action.

On Tuesday March 19th from 08:50 to 09:50 in the Main Gymnasium there will be the HS Season Two Awards Assembly. This is our opportunity as a school to celebrate the successes of the teams, students and coaches. Please take the time to come out and watch this great event. Here are some dates for games and matches for our teams

March 16th – ASD Invitational for JV and Varsity Badminton

March 17th – JV Softball vs ASD at DLL, Varsity Softball vs GAA at Sheik Zayed Sports Complex Abu Dhabi

March 18th – U14 Track and Field at Dunecrest American School

March 20th – Varsity Baseball vs ACS at DLL, JV/Varsity Badminton vs ACS at DAA

March 21-22nd – EAC Track and Field Championships at DAA

March 23rd – JV and Varsity Badminton at GAA and ACS

Lots of great action, so come out and support the teams, and cheer on those Leopards

ACS Athens Swimming Cup 2019

The ACS Athens Swimming Cup 2019 competition was highlighted by our 5 podium finishes by Emma Cardozo Baglietto (Gold and Bronze), Paige Sagris (Bronze)and Emre Ozer (Bronze and Bronze) but the entire squad performed tremendously during both days. Many of them received personal bests or succeeded in achieving a technical change they have been trying to make.

Well done Leopards!!!

MESAC - Forensics - call out for judges!

As you know DAA is a proud member of MESAC and our students either travel or host events with our partner schools. These tournaments and events are wonderful experiences for not only our students and coaches, but can be wonderful for our community.

We are hosting MESAC Forensics from April 18th to April 22nd and we are looking for parents who would be interested in judging during this event. It is a requirement that the host school has a pool of at least 40 judges, we would like to make sure we reach that goal. While it sounds like a daunting task it is actually easy and all criteria is outlined. We will also host a judging session after the Spring Holiday so you can see how it works. Once the final schedule has been completed it will be published. If you are interested please keep the following days in mind Friday April 19th and Saturday April 20th. You would be asked to make a commitment for up to 4 hours. Those who have public speaking backgrounds would be excellent, but is not necessary. If you are interested please contact me or Yvonne Sidani directly. Email scott.hibbard@gemsdaa.net or y.sidani_daa@gemsedu.com
